A Cultural and Educational Journey on the Euro Tour

As part of the unforgettable Euro Tour offered by our partner Intercamps Summer School in Brussels, ETI Holding’s students led by our staff Ms Tea Mdinaradze had the incredible opportunity to explore an iconic European city Cologne, Germany. This exciting excursion was one of the many highlights of their summer experience, giving them the chance to discover the rich history, vibrant cultures, and unique landmarks of this fascinating destination.

The Euro Tour, designed to expose students to the diversity of Europe, allowed our students to broaden their horizons, learn about different European cultures, and appreciate the historical and architectural wonders that make these cities so special. The excursions were carefully planned to provide an enriching blend of education and adventure, allowing students to immerse themselves in the heart of Europe while enhancing their knowledge of European history, art, and politics.

The first stop on the Euro Tour was Cologne, one of Germany's oldest and most culturally significant cities. Known for its stunning Gothic architecture, rich history, and vibrant cultural scene, Cologne offered a perfect introduction to Germany's diverse heritage. Undoubtedly, the highlight of the students’ visit to Cologne was the Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom), a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Europe’s most impressive landmarks. Standing tall at 157 meters, the cathedral is an awe-inspiring example of Gothic architecture, with its intricate spires, stained-glass windows, and majestic interiors. The students were fascinated by the cathedral's history, which dates back to the 13th century, and they had the chance to explore its stunning architecture and learn about its cultural significance.

For many students, this was their first visit to such an iconic European monument. They learned about the cathedral's role in the religious and cultural history of Cologne, as well as its survival through centuries of conflict and destruction. Some students even climbed to the top of the cathedral’s tower, where they were rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the city.

After visiting the cathedral, the students wandered through Cologne’s Old Town (Altstadt), a picturesque area filled with cobblestone streets, colorful buildings, and lively squares. The Old Town is home to many historic landmarks, such as Alter Markt and Heinzelmännchenbrunnen, which tell the story of Cologne’s medieval past. The students had the opportunity to learn about the city’s history, including its time as a Roman settlement, and see how the old and new parts of the city have blended together over time.

Additionally, the group took a relaxing stroll along the Rhine River, which flows through the heart of Cologne. The scenic riverfront is home to charming cafes and restaurants, where students could unwind and enjoy the beautiful views. The group also had the opportunity to visit the Hohenzollern Bridge, famous for its “love locks,” where couples attach locks to the bridge’s railing as a symbol of their commitment. This moment became a fun, memorable photo opportunity for the students, capturing the spirit of their Euro Tour.

Cologne also boasts a thriving art scene, and the students had the opportunity to visit some of the city's renowned museums. One such stop was the Museum Ludwig, home to one of the most important collections of modern art in Germany. Here, students explored the works of famous artists like Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol, broadening their understanding of 20th-century art movements. The museum’s diverse exhibits allowed the students to connect art and history, making their visit both educational and inspiring.

A Life-Changing Experience

The Euro Tour to Cologne was an educational and enriching experience for ETI Holding’s students. They not only learned about the history and culture of this fascinating city, but also deepened their understanding of European politics, architecture, and art. The trip allowed them to connect the theoretical knowledge they had gained in their studies with the real-world applications they encountered on their travels.

At ETI Holding, we are proud to provide our students with opportunities like the Euro Tour to broaden their perspectives, enhance their education, and foster global understanding. The visit to Cologne and Maastricht was just one of many incredible moments on their journey, and it played a crucial role in shaping their personal and academic growth.
